Private Full-Day Wine Tour of the Magical Médoc
From €250
This full-day wine tour to Bordeaux's iconic Médoc wine region will take you behind the scenes at three classified châteaux, accompanied by an expert wine guide.
You will be picked up from your hotel in Bordeaux and then driven 45 minutes or so to the Médoc wine region.
You will travel the length of the D2 'route de châteaux' to see all of the sites of the famous villages and grand châteaux such as Margaux, Lafite Rothschild and Latour. As you ascend the Medoc the proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon grows in relation to the increased amount of gravel stones in the soil.
Impressive grand châteaux are located here in the flattish landscape of this peninsular. Estates are bigger and this is the land where the 1855 Classification rules still today. Smaller Haut Médoc properties or from less prestigious appellations offer wonderful value for money just being on the wrong side of the line!
You will visit three châteaux with the chance to lunch in between at a local restaurant where you will rub shoulders with the Bordeaux world of wine! This will give you a wonderful insight into Bordeaux, its wines and its people. You will meet those involved with the winemaking process to get an insider's view. Visit a grand cru classé château in two of these famous villages.
Lots of properties are still family-owned, most are classified and all produce great wine. A smaller independent producer (SIP) will be included if possible, where you can meet the winemaker to see the 'other side' (there are 7000 properties in Bordeaux and only around 200 of them belong to the elite group called the Grand Cru Classé).
The day's itinerary will be tailored to meet your needs and preferences.
Private Full-Day Graves and Sauternes Wine Tasting Tour
From €250
Join this private full-day tour in Bordeaux to visit the birthplace of Bordeaux wines and the world famous sweet wines of Sauternes, accompanied by an expert wine guide.
You will be picked up from Bordeaux and drive the 30 minutes or so to Graves, the birthplace of Bordeaux wines, a region of undulating hills, forests and fairy-tale castles, yet often missed out. Both red and white grapes excel in these stoney soils. The sweet wines come from a particular micro-climate within this area created by the foggy conditions of the criss crossing rivers.
The golden wines of Sauternes are the most well-known and dominated by the hill with its queen Château d'Yquem on its top, the jewel in the crown with its lesser First growth jewels circling around it. Barsac is not to be missed though with its fresher flavours and vitality due to its limestone bedrock.
You will visit three châteaux in this wonderful but often overlooked region, a unique chance to taste red white and sweet wines. This will give you a wonderful insight into the diversity of Bordeaux, its wines and its history.
The chateaux visited are very different, so you can discover some of the different aspects involved in Bordeaux vine growing and winemaking. Most of the properties are still family-owned, most are classified and all produce great wine. A smaller independent producer (SIP) will be included, where you can meet the winemaker to see the 'other side' (there are 7000 properties in Bordeaux and only around 200 of them belong to the elite group called the Grand Cru Classé).
The day's itinerary will be tailored to meet your needs and preferences.
Private Full-Day Wine Tasting Tour in St Emilion
From €250
Visit three châteaux from the famous St Emilion wine region and visit the medieval village of St Emilion with this private full-day tour, accompanied by an expert wine guide.
St Emilion (Right Bank) is a beautiful wine region with its vineyards planted on rolling hills around its medieval village. The properties are smaller here and many are still family-owned. It is known as 'the hill of a thousand châteaux' and it is important to visit some contrasting styles from the classified property where you go under the vines in limestone caves and another, which has been ‘organic forever’ and is run by the 14th generation of the same family today who you would meet.
Your tour includes visits to three châteaux and the fascinating medieval village of St Emilion.
Visit and taste the wines of a Grand Cru Classé St Emilion and then drive through the pretty region to lunch at a château overlooking the vineyards.
Instead of a third château visit (on different terroir of St Emilion) there is an excellent tour of underground St Emilion organised by the Tourist Information Office in English including the monolithic church and Emilion's hermit cave!
You will also have time to visit the fascinating medieval town and its cobbled streets and pass through Pomerol where Bordeaux’s most expensive wines are found including Petrus.
The day's itinerary will be tailored to meet your needs and preferences.
